Gel blasters have been classified as a "prohibited weapon" by the Honourable Paul Papalia on the 3rd of July 2021. This means there are restrictions about how to lawfully use gel blasters in Western Australia. It also means are unable to ship gel blasters into the state.
We have begun the process of arguing the validity of statements made by WAPOL over this decision, but as it stands currently, it's not possible for us to ship gel blasters to Western Australia.
Having said that, all non-gel blaster products will be available for sale as per the rest of our shipping policy. This includes our gel blaster accessories and tactical gear.
Struggling to understand the difference between ‘airsoft’, gel blaster and gel ballers? As the name suggests, airsoft is the style of shooting and the type of device fired, usually a soft pellet or gel ball. So all of these devices are essentially gel blasters. The team at Tactical Edge Hobbies is always available to share advice on gel blasters.
Gel blasters come in a wide range of categories. Whether you have a line for novices, sports play or pros, all gel blasters are designed for fun and active tactical play. Gel blasters in Perth are also available for a range of modes, from manual and electric pistols to sniper rifles to submachine models.
The legality of gel blasters in Perth is a rapidly evolving situation. Western Australia has recently classified them as a prohibited device, meaning that a permit or appropriate permission will be needed to own and use gel blasters.
However, we have begun the process of questioning this in court, so (hopefully!) this may change in the future.
The short answer is “yes”. Breaches of the legal requirements can carry fines under the Weapons Act 1999.
While you don't need a firearms permit to own and use gel blasters and airsoft in Perth, you do need the correct license. You may be fined for not having the proper licensing, or otherwise using the gel blasters in the wrong way - such as shooting at a person without their permission.
However, this is a rapidly evolving situation - the restrictions themselves were only recently implemented, and we have begun the process of arguing against them in court. Check this space to see if the regulations change for Western Australia!
